MES/MMS Library

The Library at MEMS is a vibrant learning space.  We are here for your leisure reading and research needs.  We encourage you to come in, ask questions, search for answers, and utilize our shared resources.  If there's something you need and you can't find it, please let Ms. Binder know.  Suggestions and requests are always gladly received.  We look forward to reading and learning and laughing and growing and exploring with all of you this year.  See you in the Library soon!
MEMS Library Mission Statement:
The mission of the Milton Elementary/Middle School Library is to create an inviting and dynamic, space for learning that inspires and honors curiosity, creativity, and collaboration as well as personal responsibility.  We support and recognize reading as the foundation for students to become skilled in multiple literacies and we work to build and maintain a collection of resources in various formats which exemplifies the principles of equity and inclusion, supports lifelong learning, and encourages students to make connections through timely and up-to-date research and leisure reading materials.
Current Events and Happenings in the Library
Book Fair: The book fair is happening this week!  Come on in and join us for some book fair excitement.  Our wonderful PTA volunteers have decorated the library with the theme for this year's book fair ("Enchanted") and students are having a great time perusing the books and literacy-related goodies.  The fair is open every day this week until 8pm and Friday until 5pm.
Author Visit - John Churchman:  Join us in the library this Thursday evening (November 8th) for a family visit with author John Churchman.  Churchman writes the Sweet Pea & Friends books along with his wife.  The books feature animals from the Churchmans' farm in Essex, VT and Mr. Churchman will be bringing one of the stars of the books along for the visit (Laddie the border collie)!  Mr. Churchman will read from one of his books and answer questions about his farm, life with the animals, and of course, writing.
Author Visit - Kwame Alexander:  Award-winning, nationally-acclaimed author Kwame Alexander (The Crossover) will be visiting our fifth through eighth grade students via Skype on Tuesday, November 13th!  Mr. Alexander will talk to students about his writing process, the inspiration for his novels in verse, and what it's like to be a writer.  Mr. Alexander's books are extremely popular with our students and we're so excited to be able to give them the opportunity to meet this wonderful author!
Stop, Drop, and Read in the Middle School: On Friday, November 9th students, faculty, and staff will stop what they're doing and read for fifteen minutes together in the middle school.  This school-wide event will promote reading and the joy of sharing books as a community.  We're so excited to feel the power of reading all together!
